Meet 11:30am at the GUTS Dupont bus stop
Join Manuel and Julio, two workers organizing against sweatshop conditions at Hanes' factory in the Dominican Republic, for this action:
Activists from around DC will be meeting to tell Jessica Matthews
that "Sweatshops are a peace issue!" Come join the United Students Against Sweatsips and others from the area at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. Jessica Matthews, president of the Carnegie Endowment, has refused to use her leverage as a member of the board of directors of Hanes to improve factory conditions in the Dominican Republic so we are going to be giving her some extra encouragement. Meet at 11:30 at the Dupont GUTS Bus stop. For more info, contact Joe Tso at skafan12@gmail.com.
TOS Dominicana Workers coming to campus!
Thursday, March 13, 6:00 pm
Leavey Club Room #338.
FREE PIZZA too!
Georgetown Solidarity Committee is hosting two workers from the TOS Dominicana factory in the Dominican Republic where serious worker rights abuses have been exposed. The two workers will be talking about the fight for better conditions and wages they have been waging at the factory. Workers have experienced intimidation, verbal abuse, forced and unpaid overtime, while Hanes management refuses to address the problems in the factory.
GU Students for Fair Trade will be hosting the founder of Fair Trade coffee company Dean's Beans at 7 PM in the Mortara Center (near Wisemiller's and Walsh).
Come discuss about how companies can operate ethically in a global economy (actual ethics, not in the style of Nike or Wal-Mart!).
Contact Ashwini (aj94) for more information.
